Incoming Student Audition Procedures

This audition is to determine into which band you will be placed.  You will have the opportunity to "challenge" for a higher seat within your assigned band, but movement between bands is not possible during the school year.  You will have the opportunity to audition again each year.

 

What to expect:

1. ScalesPractice all major scales (see link below)

You will perform 1 chromatic scale of your choice,

up and down (see link below)

2. Pieces:      Try to play each of the assigned pieces the best you can.  Include dynamics and articulation.  If you cannot play one

of the pieces, try the first line.

3. Sight reading:           You may be asked to sight read a short selection.

Your audition time will be reserved for you.  Please arrive early to warm up.  If you must cancel, call 301-345-5393 and leave a message.  If the bands fill up, no-shows and cancellations may have to skip a year of band.
